Arrest ALS is a classic lock up fundraising campaign mashed up with the internet and social
networking to create a new concept in online fundraising. Raising money for the ALS Therapy
Development Institute (ALS TDI) and their goal to find an effective therapy for ALS, the campaign is
set in the old-west and participants sign up and are arrested after pleading guilty to a variety of crimes
from spitting in public, to gambling, to horse thieving, gun slinging and train robbery. The more
extreme the crime, the larger the bail and the more money the participant will need to raise to win his
or her freedom.
"If you think you're rough enough to run with the big guns and rob a train, then you better be willin' to
do some serious fundraising," explains the ALS TDI Sheriff, who is quite serious when it comes to
outlaws and the funds they can bring to the ALS TDI - train robbery comes with a $500 bail. Of course
less serious infractions do carry smaller bail amounts. Bail is set at $5 and $10, for example, for
misdemeanors like cussin' and spittin'.
Outlaws have one month to raise their bail money, and be released. Those who do raise their bail are set
free. Those who fail to raise bail could be sentenced to
hard time, and a life on the chain-gang or time in the hole.
Once arrested, outlaws are given an on-line RAP Sheet where they can direct friends and family, and
collect donations for bail. Complete with the mug shot and list of crimes, donors and visitors can also
sign-in using their Facebook or Twitter account and leave a message.
Arrest ALS was created by ALS TDI in conjunction with a volunteer committee of ALS community
members to raise money. All bail money and donations received will be used to accelerate the
Institute’s efforts to find an effective treatment for ALS.
